Business News is the part of journalism that tracks, records and analyzes the economic and financial changes that take place in societies. Most newspapers, magazines and even radio and television news programs have a business section. In the United States, The Wall Street Journal is one of the most respected and popular business newspapers.
The term “business” describes any activity that involves the exchange of goods or services for money. Businesses are usually privately owned, although large corporations may be publicly traded on the stock market and therefore viewed as public companies. A business’s primary objective is to make a profit on the exchange of goods and/or services, and if it does so successfully it can be considered successful in its line of work.
Often, if a business is not making a profit it will close or cease operations. Some examples of businesses are a store, a restaurant or a company that manufactures a particular product. Some businesses are not-for-profit and invest all profits into achieving stated goals or improving infrastructure. Others are known as for-profit businesses and only invest any profit back to shareholders. A third type of business is a government-owned entity, which is typically referred to as state-owned.
