Entertaiment is a broad idea that covers everything from personal choice of entertainment through a huge array of pre-recorded products, to intimate meals for two; to performances intended for a wide variety of scales, from small audiences in theatres to global broadcasts. The idea is primarily associated with amusement, although many entertainments also have serious purposes. One famous example is Scheherazade, a story in the Persian professional storytelling tradition about a woman who saves her life by telling stories. Its power to entertain has led to retellings across various media – composers have made orchestral works; directors have made film and TV adaptations; games designers have created innovative video games based on the story.
